Dr. Joanne Cunningham is a U.K. trained paediatrician with 26 years of experience.

She obtained a BSc with Honours in Zoology and Biochemistry from the University of the West Indies ,St. Augustine,Trinidad and then obtained a scholarship from the Pan American Health Organization(PAHO) to do a Master of Science Degree in Immunology at the University of Amsterdam, Holland.

She entered Medical school in 1982 at the University of The West Indies, Mona, Jamaica and graduated in 1987. She went on to do her internship at the Port of Spain General Hospital in Trinidad and worked as a Senior House Officer in Paediatrics for 2 years.

She came to the Bahamas in 1992 and worked at the Princess Margaret Hospital as a Senior House Officer in Paediatrics for 3 years before going on to do her Postgraduate Paediatric Studies in the United Kingdom.

She gained her extensive paediatric experience at Guy’s Hospital ,London, at King’s College Hospital , London and at The Hospital For Sick Children,Great Ormond Street in London.

In the Bahamas, she worked in Private Practice with Consultant Paediatrician Dr. Paul Roberts for a number of years. She also worked in the Public Sector at the Ministry of Health, Department of Public Health and was responsible for Paediatric Services at the South Beach Clinic for 8 years.

She is presently based at The Walk-In Clinic on Carmichael Road where she specializes in Primary Care Paediatrics and focuses on Primary Prevention with her emphasis being on Education, Growth and Developmental Assessments , Immunizations and all childhood diseases.

Her main aim is the delivery of Quality Primary Care with the ultimate goal of reducing hospitalizations of children to reduce the cost of Tertiary Care.
